How To Make the Best Rooibos Tea

If you want to make rooibos tea, you’re in the right place.  It is very simple to do.  Of course you will need a teapot and a kettle or jug to boil the water in.

This is how to do it. Always use fresh cold water to brew tea.    Pour a little hot water into your teapot and swirl it around to coat the sides.  Then discard it.  Most teas need boiling water and rooibos is no exception. Now it’s time to put the tea in.  The basic measurement is one teaspoon of tea per person and one for the pot.  So if you have two people for tea, then you need to put three teaspoons of tea into your teapot.  Fill up the teapot (that way the tea also stays hot longer). Rooibos can be bought either in tea bags or loose or infused with other flavors (like vanilla, for example).  It is your choice but it’s advisable to buy the best quality you can – you will taste the difference. The tea leaves should stay infused in the water for 3-5 minutes.  In fact even if you leave rooibos tea infused, it will not get bitter. Now it’s time to serve the tea. You can serve it plain or with milk or lemon.  The tea has its own sweetish flavor but you can add sugar or honey to taste, of course.<p>And another thing… Please do not throw away cold, left over rooibos tea.  You can freeze it in an ice-cube container and then you can easily add it to soups or stews or sauces. It can even be used as a meat tenderizer.  It is also an excellent iced tea – something you can always have in your refrigerator during hot summer days.  Add a few slices of lemon and you can also jazz it up with some fruit juice and ice.  Cold rooibos can be applied to your skin to combat skin irritations and sunburn.  It really is a great tea to have in your cupboard.

So you see, you can make rooibos tea very easily. Now you have brewed the tea, just relax and have a good time - enjoy your tea.  It is always a pleasure.
