Tea Sandwiches
Have a wonderful time with friends and/or family serving afternoon tea with tea sandwiches. This dainty and light finger food looks quite spectacular served with a great cup of tea. It creates an ambiance all of its own.
If you think it's a big, daunting task, then think again. All you need is a teapot, some tea cups and saucers and plates for a variety of sandwiches. Freshness and quality is what you should go for. Choose a good quality whole-grain bread, white, pumpernickel or all three and either butter it or spread it with cream cheese to prevent soggy sandwiches. Varieties of sandwiches are as endless as your creativity. Some favorites include: thin slices of English cucumber and watercress (this can be served on white bread)- you can also put the cucumber on cream cheese with mint and watercress. Tomato and basil, ham and Dijon mustard, cream cheese and celery, egg salad, tuna salad are simple and easy to make. Once you have assembled the sandwich, cut it crossways into four triangles and then stand them up on a plate and top with alfalfa. You can cut the crusts off for an added 'dainty' effect. This looks quite spectacular. Naturally the tea should be served in a teapot with matching cups, saucers and plates and do choose a quality tea. You can find lots of sandwich ideas on the internet and there are so many great tea websites where you can order premium quality tea.
You can make this into a great occasion. Everyone will have a good time, have a healthy drink and eat a variety of small sandwiches which are good for you. Your friends will thank you for it and hopefully be encouraged invite you over to their afternoon tea with sandwiches.
